Key fob remote

I just started driving my wife's 2005 Jeep Liberty as she got a new one. I have found that there is a problem with the key fobs. One of them works just fine. The spare one will unlock the doors and start the Jeep but within seconds of starting, it shuts off every time.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any thoughts on what is wrong or what I should do?

Have you replaced battery? My '11 GC's screen told me my battery was low in my FOB.
Let dealer install for $6 (incl. battery).

The spare one isn't programmed to the car.

The RFID chip in the key will respond without a battery in the fob. For the car to shut down as being described it is going into theft protection which means it is either not receiving the ID or does not know the ID of the key.
