Hood latch broken

Inside hood latch broken. searched for cable under dashboard but not visible. Crawled under front of truck and I can see the hood latches, etc.. I can reach up and push up on a part of it but that doesn't open the hood. tried pushing it from one side to the other but no movement. tried pulling down but can't. Cable going into the attachment I can't reach. Can't remove grill as it is attached to the hood. Battery dead and need to replace it.. I can see the connections looking up from lying down on my back under the truck. Reaching up scraps arm pretty bad against the chrome while trying to manipulate the latch. Any ideas on how I can get the hood open?
