Drivers seat belt is sluggish to retract

I can pretty much see how to remove the interior panel that hides the seat belt works. Question is whether the spring to make it retract can be re-wound tighter, or just go buy all new works. Cost for new seat belt assembly ???

I think Ford has a 5/60 warranty on seat belts. What model Ford are you driving, and what year?

It's a 2003 Expedition. With side air bags. I watched a YouTube video which showed the retractor is wired to the air bag control module ! They mentioned they could fix the seat belt if I sent them the control module too ?!?

I'm not much of a mechanic anyway, but messing around the airbags isn't my cup of tea. And yeah, all kinds of "parts" are tied in with the computer systems these days.

I'm gonna try a simple solution that if it doesn't work I at least clean off the seat belt from previous owner's.....stuff. A guy on Youtube pulled the belt all the way out...vice-gripped it so it stayed out... put the belt in a bucket of laundry soap and soaked it until the soapy water got dirty. Then let it dry out spread out inside the car...un-did the vice grips and because the belt was clean and more pliable...it retracted like it should !
