Old alarm systems in that era vehicle tend to get flaky as they age. When the one in my '97 Subaru started going off randomly (usually at 2 am), I managed to disconnect it without losing the key fob buttons. No idea if that's possible with yours. You could try chasing the wiring down and cleaning the various contact points.
