2002 Buick Lesabre A/C problems after replacing battery

Hi, new to your forum. I recently replaced the battery in my wife's 2002 Buick Lesabre Limited. It has the dual control system. We used to keep A/C control on automatic. Since replacing the battery, when the Auto button is engaged and lit, the A/C will not come on when the engine is started. To get the A/C to start, we have to hit the off button and then hit the auto button and the A/C comes on. When you turn off the car and come back to it later or the next morning, same thing! System will work if you don't have it on AUTO, and have it on straight cool, settings as set with the memory comfort controls.

My question is, this all happened since replacing the battery. Is this something the electrical system for A/C has to go thru a re-learn process? Any suggestions you might have will be greatly appreciated! Thanks - Rick

Update: Compressor is engaging when starting with the AUTO button in. Could there be a relay gone bad that tells the blower motor to kick in when the car is started in the AUTO position? OR is it still something that needs to relearn itself since changing the battery?
