Brake Cylinder Assembly - anyone had to replace this?

Took my 2010 Prius in recently because the brake light came on and when braking it felt weird, like a resistance. The Toyota shop foreman diagnosed it as a Master Brake Cylinder failure and told me he hasn't ever seen this in the Priuses. Cost me $3,000 to have it fixed! Has anyone else had this problem?
