Oil leak in 98 Avalon

I have asmall oil leak in my Avalon. The car runs fine but leaks oil. I went to my local mechanic and he replaced the crank shaft, put in two ceals and it still leaks oil and he does not know what to do next. He put in some dye but this did not help him. Question one: Does anyone have any ideas I can give him on what is going on? 2) Can I live with a small oil leak or is it dangerous?
