    Not only is "the Wife and I " awkward (makes her sound like the family pet), but it's also incorrect. Try "the wife and me". Better still would be "allowing my wife and myself". Best way to know what's right is to try a pronoun alone, as in: "allowing I" vs. "allowing me". See?
