They still do that? Ugh. I HATED that on our 2001 I30. I thought that it was unavoidable until I saw a car that had geniously had was designed to cover the hinges. The real part where this comes into play is when you stuff your trunk full of stuff and it won't close because you have stuff around it. Small details like this become big deals when you spend 20 minutes re-arranging the trunk (and then have to do it again when you have to open it again) to get it to close.

Our MZ6 has the hinges covered, but no net. We loop one of the bag handles through the other and hang it on the rear seat release. Works just fine as long as you don't have anything real heavy in the bag. FWIW, the covers in the 6 take up some horizontal space in the trunk, making it harder to get the golf bag in the back easily.

So, why doesn't it have a cargo net again - ?

Are gooseneck hinges making a comebac? A decade ago they seemed to be the kiss of death in car reviews with car after car called out for it. Yet it seems like they're on the rebound. Some cars cover up the hinges (which prevents crushing things but reduces cargo volume). Even new higher-end cars seem to be avoiding the more complex hinge systems that seemed destined to replace goosenecks.

There is a bag hook in the center of the trunk (you can put the handles of a bag on it and it keeps the bag from sliding/falling). The hinge setup is improved over my former 2012. The cables are and hinges are now enclosed (that cable always got in the way), so although you still have to pay attention when packing, I have never got more stuff into a smaller car than I have with the Sonata.

Completely unrelated: Android Auto has been released on new Sonatas! Download available this summer...
