Car lease signed before I got the car

I recently found a car online I wanted to lease; it had been ordered by the dealer but hadn't arrived at the dealership yet. It was the only one I could find in my state, so the dealer said that if I wanted it, I should put a deposit down on it so no one else got it.
Upon arriving at the dealership, they put all the paperwork in front of me for the lease contract, and I figured there was no harm in signing it since I was sure I wanted this car. They even had me sign some odometer form that said the current odometer reading, which I signed even though I of course couldn't verify it was correct, which I thought was weird. Then when I was reading the lease contract, it said the lease was starting that day. I said "So the lease is starting even though I don't have the car yet?" They said "yes" as if this was a normal thing to do. I ended up signing it, which I know I should not have since I wasn't really comfortable with it. I also paid the first months payment. They said the car would be in within 5 days, so I figured it wasn't that big of a deal. But now that I think about it, I'm paying money for this car every day and I don't even have it. Now I'm worried they will push back the delivery date of the car and I'm not sure I have any recourse since I signed all the papers already.
This is my first time leasing a car, so my question is: is this a typical scenario? To start a car lease before the car is even in hand? Has this happened to anyone else?
