The latest Hyundai Sonata has taken a few hits for its understated styling compared to its predecessor. I can see why some people are disappointed, but I'm not one of them.

I like it, to me it looks classy. The old one looked like it was trying a bit too hard.

I was disappointed when I first saw it in pictures, but seeing them in person has made me realize that Hyundai nailed the styling. It's perhaps more conservative than its predecessor, but it's also a lot more cohesive. It looks classy and competent and just a mite sporty. The LT reports are showing that it happens to be a good all-around vehicle as well, so like the author, I'm sure I'd be happy if I owned one.

I think the previous Sonata hasn't aged well at all, but I also wasn't too big of a fan of it from the get-go. I didn't understand the accolades at the time. To my eyes there wasn't much unique about it that the Camry Solara hadn't already done. This time around, I think they chose elements that will wear better over time and not look like a dated fad half a decade from now.

I can't help but think that this car looks very similar to a Subaru Legacy - which is not a bad thing - but still.

Those LED running lights are a little over the top. At night it looks like it's smiling. Taking a few LEDs out of each side would be a big help.

This new Sonata will age better than the previous generation Sonata. I personally like conservatively styled cars, because in 10 years it will still look handsome - or at least "not tacky."

It doesn't photograph as good as it looks in person.
