I've never seen this before. Our log-term 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI needs a new key fob battery and the car is telling us in no uncertain terms about it.

That seems awfully soon to replace a battery.

It happens in all keyless cars eventually but this car is only a few months old.

I've gotten this on my old Camry Hybrid, but not until a few years into my ownership.

There are two possible causes I can think of for why your key battery is alerting:
    - Bad battery. This is the most likely.
    - Wireless interference. Strong radio waves can interfere with the signal that keyless fobs send to your car, making your car think the battery is low or the fob isn't present

My car will alert me when the fob battery needs to be replaced. It's supposed to last about a year according to the manual. I've just replaced it once a year without waiting for the warning.

our '11 CX-9 gives us a blinking red key light that indicates the fob battery needs replaced.

Um our 9 year old BMW 3er does this with the Comfort Access but usually it lasts a few years.

Just had this happen on my 11 month old 15 GTI. Seems way to soon! I haven't replaced it yet

VW's infamous electrical gremlins still plaguing even their latest models?! Schade.

My 2006 Acura RL did this, but only after 7 years.

Either way, it BETTER be covered under warranty.

Yep, my Lincoln 2014 MKZ did the same thing at about one year old. Dealer was willing but easier to just drive to a close by store, get the batteries, and change both fobs myself. Even with the finicky Lincoln take apart and put together design....

My 2013 Golf R and 2006 M45 both show similar messages once the battery runs low.
