AC clutch engages and disengages every few seconds

the ac clutch on my 1995 Jimmy engages and disengages every few seconds, the ac works and blows ice cold and the pressure seems okay when I attach a gauge to the low pressure side, I realise its supposed to disengage but should it happen so frequently ?
