Edmunds' long-term 2015 Kia K900 has a great shifter, but the interior's piano black trim attracts a lot of dust.

I can blame the piano black? The worst dust is on the woodgrain, not the piano black. Can probably blame the dust on not cleaning the interior of the car often enough. You need one of those microfiber dusting wands, and if you are in a dusty area like the southwestern desert, use it every week, especially if you're driving them 400 miles per week. Takes 10 minutes, tops, to do the whole interior of the car.

I keep a microfiber cloth in the car and periodically dust off the nav screen. It doesn't take much effort, but just a quick swipe or dusting every few days keep the dust away.

Ive never seen a piano constructed of cheap shiny black plastic. Ive seen plenty with 6-10 coats of black lacquer though. Shiny black plastic is not a luxury item and it really upsets me that its become so common is luxury vehicles. The XJ is full of the stuff! Ive had the honor of spending some time in a Mulsanne with ACTUAL piano black lacquered walnut and the depth of that finish is truly a luxury good. Rant over.

Totally agree. Piano black is a finger print magnet and very high maintenance and even using the softest microfibre cloth still causes scratches since the dust actually leaves tiny scratches over time. There are cleaning techniques but it requires special effort. Unfortunately, it's used not only in Cadillacs, but increasing in trims on VW Golfs/GTI/R, and certain interior trim options on the Audi/BMW/MB (don't get them whatever you do). How sad.
