Availability of Warm up regulator

Have a 1985 280SL (Euro) for which I need a warm up regulator. Unfortunately I am no longer a DIY type and my mechanic is telling me that such a thing is unavailable. The 2.8 dohc was an engine used in many Mercedes models for a lot of years and I find it hard to believe that either new, rebuilt or used parts are not available. Any information regarding availability or even a part that can succesfully be substituted would be gratefully received.
