New Starter Smoking

I put in a new starter in my 02 impala and there was some smoke that was coming up from it after I started the car up. I'm not sure what else might be going. I read where some smoke is normal but I don't want to take a chance.

    Smoke is NOT normal. Is it coming from inside the starter, or the cables? Is there a fluid leaking onto it?
