Delivery Delays
The dealer promised the usual 6 weeks delivery
after placing the order for my truck. Its now been
9 weeks and the dealer says that it still has not
even been built yet much less ready for delivery.
Is it just mine or is this the norm for Chevy.
How long did you have to wait?

I have a 2000 15k on order. ext. cab, long bed, 5.3, automatic, locking diff, aluminum wheels in carmine red with all the bells & whistles except leather seats.
A couple sources have told me I'm not likely to find that sitting on a lot.

Said delivery should be between Christmas & New Year if they get it on a transport before the factory shuts down for 2 weeks on the 23rd for the holidays. If not I probably won't get delivery until the second or third week of January. Thats a 5 to 5 1/2 month wait.
I can't wait for Chevrolet to send me a customer satisfaction survey.

Who said car manufacturers were "high tech". Anybody heard of barcodes and tracking technology in Detroit?
Lost Jeep
Even more amazing is that the dealer said the factory has an unlisted phone # and even he can't talk to them directly. so nobody knows anything until the factory posts the schedule for a particular order into the computer. Apparently the factory is completely in charge and they answer to no one.
All attempts to contact some Bozo at corporate went nowhere. I guess they don't know or care that there is a problem somewhere or maybe they think that a 5 or 6 month wait for a vehicle is acceptable.
If you ordered one and put money down instead of buying off the lot, I guess they know you are pretty much at their mercy because they know more than likely you won't be going somewhere else. if they jerk you around on the lot you can leave. If you cancel your order and go elsewhere you just go back to square one.
I ordered this one because right now I'm driving a "90 Chevy 1/2 ton that has given me 10 years of very happy ownership until the engine went bad and I can't even complain about that. I feel that I got more than my moneys worth out of that truck, but if I had gotten the kind of service back then I'm getting from Chevy now, I don't know if you would have ever seen me in their showrooms again.
I just hope that there are no more snafu's and that they stick to the current schedule. Then maybe once the truck comes in I can put this miserable experience behind and start enjoying a new truck. I only hope that this truck is as dependable and trouble free as my old "90.
"The problem we are experiencing is in not Daimler-Chrysler being able to find the vehicle's. The problem lies in the rail companies not being able to coordinate the pickup of the vehicle's from the factory. They are contracted just as the transport trucking companies are that pick-up the vehicle's at the rail head. I can pull-up your vehicle's VON in the computer and it will tell me what the building status is ( there are 14 codes to tell me exactly what stage it is in), what factory it is in, and when it is shipped out. Once it is shipped from the factory I can call the railhead and they can tell me ETA and when it will be put on a transport
truck to be delivered to the dealership. Your Jeep has been sitting at the factory because the rail car company, not Daimler-Chrysler, has merged with two other companies and is having a serious problem with the compatibility
of their system's. They are now trucking the vehicle's from the factory."
In 1999 with all the BS we hear about customer service, quality, and owner satisfaction from the automotive industry. The "great" Daimler-Chrysler apparently can't even manage deliveries. Awesome. Three cheers for the Dealer's attempt to shift the blaim from Chrysler. After all, it's just like delivering a letter via the post. Once it leaves your office it isn't your responsibility that it didn't get delivered on-time or is it?
{i.e. windshield antennas, long hood (useless space) and short trunks (useless), A/C's that won't shut off once turned on until the ignition key is turned off; also A/C's that run 1 minute, and shut down 30 seconds, supposed to save gas, but the only thing it did was keep the inside of the car sweltery hot.} This is just to name a few of the dumb ways the GM designers are thinking, or rather not thinking. I think that GM is now THINKING (?) that they will build just enough to supply the demand. That way they don't
have a surplus come end of the car season. Only thing is, they don't sell a heck of a lot if they can't supply them. But how can you tell them any- thing like that? Powers that be can't THINK!
Maybe one day our trucks will come in, I HOPE.
