Chevy Equinox hydraulic rods to open hatch are rusting

Does anyone have information on how the rods would rust on a 2 year old vehicle. Are there any recalls or other people experiencing this issue? My friend took it to the dealer and because she has 50,000 miles on her vehicle they won't cover something like this! How can that happen on a 2 year old car???? I did a live chat with Chevy and they also said there was nothing they could do! Any information will be helpful! Thanks!

If the miles are past the warranty stipulations, why should GM be liable?

Most manufacturers offer After Warranty Assistance but it sounds like GM isn't going to help on this one.
