    Having the speed displayed was very important and helpful when I had my Garmin that was mounted on my windshield. A "heads up" speed display, plus it showed the approximate speed limit. So, my guess is that the engineers had the value and said "well, where should I put the speed? Up at the top I guess. Maybe someone will want it".

    The speed display can be changed to show internet connection strength, cell phone connection and text message alerts
  • That's optional...much like the 24hr time you are using there. I opted not to have that eat my screen real estate in my V60.
