GMC Sierra starting problem

My husband 03 gmc sierra duramax will start fine when it hasnt been on already, however if he starts it drives to work and then tries to restart it will not restart. It will turnover everytime (till you drain the battery trying) It had water in the fuel filter a while back so we replaced the filter and itnwas a few weeks after that the problem started. Pretty sure it has something to do with the fuel just cant figure out what?

    We had 5 fuel pumps go out on ours in 2 weeks till we got a good one and had to replace the pmd and some thing on the valve cover fixed our problem
