DTC Codes P0717 and B1054

I received both of these codes this week, not a good week at all. It's my daughters 2007 Xterra with 125,000 miles. The P0717 is the "input/Turbine Speed Sensor A circuit no signal". I am trying to find out if this model year requires the transmission to be dropped to replace the part? The part is around $130.00 but I have read where the labor is 8 hours to drop the transmission, turning this into a $900.00 repair? Do any of you know if that is the case?

The code B1054 is for the Driver Airbag Module, any suggestions?
