PT Cruiser a/c relay draining battery.

I unplugged my a/c relay and now my battery is holding a charge.  I do not have refrigerant in my system as of now. Any ideas of why my a/c relay would draining my battery. I also tested my fuse and there is nothing wrong with it as I can tell.
