You can check the dealer inventory of Tahoes and Yukons on-line. The lots are packed full, nobody wants them. I cut a deal for $900 below invoice plus all of the rebates. Sticker was $48990 & I paid $38000. Looks like there is another $1000 rebate out there now. Offer the GMS or employee price & walk if they don't give it to you, its a buyers market.
OK, the $3K cash to customer and $1K bonus cash expired on 6/1/04. I think the special financing also expired. If the lots are packed and the 2005's are just around the corner, what's the next big incentives? When do you think they will come out again?
GM just annouced that they are UPPING the rebates on most vehicles to $5,000. Just announce at finance.yahoo.com. No details on exact amounts, but I would expect the rebate value to stay the same or increase. Though, I don't know if the vehicles already at $5,000 will go higher.
For the Tahoe/Yukon, it's $5,000 but ONLY if you already have a GM. Otherwise, it's $3,000 if you don't.
Also, with the cash for current GM owners, it says that it cannot be combined with ANY other offer except GM Card points, excluding Supplier, Employee, etc. pricing--says they aren't eligible to combine the rebate with. However, I think it may be wrong, maybe, because my dealer just called to say that I personally can get both the Supplier Price and the Rebate. Still trying to figure out if what GM says is actually right.
Just in a few days, either way I go I lose out on $500 for the Tahoe and $1500 on the Envoy. The Truckfest $1K bonus cash expired on 6-1-04. I do, however, still have the exclusise bonus cash of $1500 (but that cannot be combined with the owner loyalty). Too bad, I could not make up my mind before 6-1!
It's special pricing that's quite a bit below invoice, given to those who are either employees of GM or are family members of someone who does.
Supplier pricing, on the other hand, is slightly higher than the employee pricing, but is available to a lot of people who work for a company that is somehow related to GM.
Any new info to share in the Northeast? Over two weeks since the last post.
We're looking for a Tahoe LS with 4WD and cloth 3rd row, with NO other options. We've found a few with just minimal options to keep the MSRP in the low $39K area (~ 39,150 with trailer equip.; inv. of ~$34,400).
Without negotiation, we've been offered several from a volume dealer in the Northeast at 28,900: $5K total rebates + 5250 dealer disc. for a total of 10,250 off.
Are we getting greedy hoping to get this down to the low $28K range? We're starting to wonder if we should just jump on it if we can get $300-500 more off, as it appears that the minimal option Tahoes (with 4WD and 3rd row cloth) are getting hard to find.
Best deal I was able to find in Denver was with Bozarth on Havana. '04 Z71 loaded- Sticker of 47475- $500.00 below invoice - sell 41110. Received the OL of 5000, and 1200 in GM Card cash, finished price of 35000.00. They gave the best trade for my '02 Silverado LT/Z71, 21000, as buck per mile on the clock. Had a problem with stains on the white paint after a couple weeks, they were ready to just give me another NEW Z71, no questions asked! Unbelievable customer service, unbelievable sales staff - before and after the fact,,, That is what keeps me going back to Ed's Chevy Shop!!!
Tahoe LS with 4WD, 3rd row cloth, trailer pkg., wheel flairs, a few other minor options, in silver (a color we really wanted). Sticker was 39,790,we paid 28,700 (5590 dealer discount and 5500 rebates); then another $3K+ off for GM Rewards to get us down near 25,500.......
Well, not that it's that awesome of a deal, but we just bought a new '04 Suburban LS 2wd for $300 over invoice, minus the $5,000 loyalty rebate.
Knew what we wanted and that no local dealer had it, so we went to the closest one who we've also had a vehicle serviced at and liked, gave them the specs, they did a search and found what matched within 200 miles.
Confirmed they could get the truck and did so a few days later. The price wasn't like what some here get, but they gave a great trade-in price on our Avalanche, are nice to deal with, and are just down the road--all of that is worth more than a couple hundred bucks anyway.
This is a coupon I received in the mail from GM. It says Get $1,000 or $1,500 Bonus Cash on Top of most current national incentives. It is redeemable only at GM dealers participating in the 24 hour test drive. Expires 9/30/04. However, I could not combine it with the $5K GM owner loyalty. I think this coupon is tied into the GM Card which I have.
Anyway I bit the bullet and took delivery of a '04 Tahoe LT with 'Sun and Sound' and 'Safe and Secure' packages. MSRP was $46,690. Negotiated with dealer for $6500 in dealer discounts, took the GM owner loyalty rebate of $5K and applied $4100 in GM Card earnings. Final price was $31,090. Drove 600 miles in one week and so far love the vehicle.

I got a Yukon SLT last month. Third one. This one sure seems to be the best. There are several posts here on the "decontent" issue. However, I believe that this one feels tighter than the others. I like it so far. Glad you got such a good price on yours.
Yeah I agree, we bought our Tahoe in May. LS 2wd w/ pretty much every option, MSRP was ~$39.5k. Invoice was like $33k. I think we got out of there for $28.5k after the $4k rebates.
Bought it from Community Chevy in Burbank. No one would touch their prices...I did play hardball, but eventually got what I wanted and feel I got a good price.
If you don't mind a few day trips (one trip to pay for the car and sign the papers, and another trip up after you do all your local DMV paperwork to pick up the vehicle) to save a few thousand bucks, we went from NJ to my old stomping grounds in Boston. There's a huge dealership just south of Boston: Quirk Chevy in Braintree, MA. They have a web site with their current ads.
Today's ad shows a Z71 with a sticker of 45,010, dealer discount of 7011, rebate of 5000, to get you down to 32,999. This isn't one of those places where you have to be there when the doors open to get vehicle in the ad; when we got our Tahoe last month, they showed 170+ Tahoes just in their own personal inventory. Their ads are not come-ons, but legit sale prices; we've been buying from them based on this for years.
I looked all over my area of NJ, and no one came within thousands of the price we got at Quirk (sticker of 39,900, cash price of 28,700), plus they had Tahoes with minimal options, which were hard to find in NJ.
Hi, I'm shopping for Tahoe LS with 3rd row seat, 17" wheels, wheel flares, side airbags, trailering, 1SK equipment package, cargo package, 6 cd stereo, etc. Vehicle lists for $42,295, dealer offer $37,870 plus $250 internet coupon. That's less than $4,500 off list. They claim it's invoice plus 1.5% advertising plus $50. After reading some of the posts, i do not think this is a good deal. But in northwest NJ, it's the best I've been able to come up with. I can also subtract the $5,000 loyalty, $1,000 Olds loyalty and $2,300 GM dollars. If this is a buyers market, the dealers are not recognizing it in NJ.
Tell me about the situation here in NJ. Either Tahoe sales are going great, or these dealers are gonna be stuck with a ton in stock. FWIW, I found that the NJ dealerships that offered internet/direct-mailing/newspaper coupons were already that much more over-priced to begin with.
As a point of reference since we bought ours up in Boston: a month ago I was offered (by the fleet/PowerBuy managers) Tahoes at $500-700 below invoice at several Boston area dealerships simply by asking for it OVER THE PHONE or internet. And that's before all the rebates. There is NO WAY the pre-rebate price should be OVER invoice.
I mentioned Quirk Chevy earlier. Just for giggles, print out their ad and show it to some of the salesmen in NJ, just to see their reactions. Sales managers reactions are even better......
Thanks. I'm requesting a quote from your dealership. How much under invoice did you pay (not including incentives)? I assume you got only the $5000 cash rebate. Thus, 84.4% of MSRP is about right based on the two vehicles you described. This should save me just over $2,000 if my offer is accepted.
I don't recall exactly what invoice was, but it was in the high $34Ks (IIRC, mark-up was ~$4700-4900). To make the numbers work, they moved the $ around on the Bill of Sale to make it show a rebate of $5500 even tho the very max rebate at the time was $5000. For my own sanity, I mentally moved that extra $500 over to the dealer discount.
Anyway, BoS shows sticker of 39,9, sale price of 34,2, then another $5500 off for rebates (including loyalty) to get us down to 28,7. So to answer your question: I consider it ~$1100-1200 below invoice, before $5K rebate.
Hi, I've been talking to that dealer and got number now. Though they do not have the exact truck I want, I can probably get a Z71 with 2nd row buckets/3rd row seat for the same price as the adequately optioned LS I priced in NW Jersey. I'll let you know how I make out. I just wonder what my dealer's service manager's face will express when I bring in a truck for warranty/recall service (I hope not) that was not purchased there. It ended up around $11K under sticker ($661 under invoice -$5000 rebate) when all is said and done. Did you by the newspaper ad vehicle?
No, I didn't buy the ad truck, but their ad vehicle options change from time to time; they can do their biggest markdown on whatever they buy a lot of (usually either completely stripped or very loaded). Most times, they will have a sufficient number of ad vehicles, but if you want just a few more or less options, they may not offer the big discount they show in the ad.
Thanks again. They price three for me and all were discounted the same. Basically, they give you the holdback. The add vehicles, they claim, are discounted more because of incentives to them from Chevy. Still, a better deal than at home. Explain the purchase process since MA does not have temp. registration. Also, how was you delivery experience? Also, do you think I have any more haggle room?
Just got my first GMC product (Previously had mostly Ford/Mercury)
While waiting for the kids to get on a plane to visit their grandparents, I was taking a look through the paper, and saw the $5k rebate offer on the Yukons, so on a whim went to the local dealer.
An hour later, drove out in a 04 Yukon. Sticker was around $35,900, dealer discounted down to $27,800, and with the $5k rebate price was $22,800. Financing through GMC was at 4.7% (for 72 months no less), so no way was I going to turn down the rebate to get 0% interest. I didn't do a trade-in.
So far, had the Yukon for about 2 weeks and love every bit of it. Drives and handles great, and I love the room (Biggest vehicle I had previously was a Mercury Mountaineer).
Our Mountaineer is out the door now that the lease is over. We are buying this time around. I wanted the Exp. because the seat configuration is great and the kids loved it too. Hubby likes the ride and looks of the Tahoe. He likes the dash much better too and I agree. He pays, he drives, he wins.
Ours is an LS with the SK1 pkg (Ls pref equip.) we got the 17" tires and wheels, trailer equip, 3rd row and locking rear dif. Not the exact equip I wanted, but we shopped partly for color--we got blue, with a pinstripe ($149 dealer add-on)
The total sticker is 41,515. My internet quote was 31,844 after the 5,000 rebate. We hemmed and hawwed thinking maybe we want green. He took off another 500 so we totalled out at 31,344. We don't have GM rebates, but we do have a little money coming from Citibank Driver's Edge program.
The mgr claimed the extra $500 was a coupon he had a limited supply of, but if we took the deal now he would give it to us, no guarantee he'd have any left when/if we come back. He then claimed that part of the original price he quoted already used one coupon, but he'd give us two. I think that was a load of #$%^, but he can move the numbers how he want as long as I feel like I am around invoice before the "real" rebate. I think I was about $100 under not counting my pinstripe which he didn't really charge us for anyhow.
That's our story!! Now I am looking into bug deflectors etc because that hood really curves over and is begging to be stone chipped. Maybe mud flaps too? Sorry I wrote so much!
Well, with many thanks to Wallet, I bought a new Z71. I actually was looking for the vehicle the Whitall bought (LS, 1SK, 17" wheels, flares, 3rd row and side airbags). In nw jersey, the dealer I have done business with before offered me a good deal for nw Jersey (invoice + advertising 1.5% +$50). They all seem to consider advertising as part of the invoice price. Anyway, to make a long story short, I bought at the dealer Wallet suggested. I went or a Z71 with the 2nd row buckets and 3rd row seat. The deal was invoice - holdback. I calculated a savings of $1,800 over my NJ deal if i had price out that vehicle here. My net savings is a little less because of gas to rive up to MA. I pick it up on Saturday. BTW, with incentives such as $5K, $1K Olds loyalty and almost $2,300 GM Card dollars, I got the vehicle that stickers for $44,865 for $30,600.
Don't ask me where I read this (I've been surfing for many hours today doing pricing research/quotes for an Accord), but I saw a very recent release (or a release quoted in a post) that GM was lowering the general rebate on many models, but offering some of that back in rebates tied to financing, kinda like Ford is doing.
The numbers I hear are in the $4,500 range for most SUV but credit customers may expect as much as a $6,000 rebate on a Suburban or Envoy. You can read more here.
Interesting that GM has reduced the incentives since the other day I was looking at the "Summer Drive" campaign, which stated $5000 cash back until August 31, at least on the Tahoe.
I am looking at buying a 04 Z71 loaded up with sun and sound and all the fixings, but I'm really having trouble figuring out Chevy's pricing scheme and what price I should try and negotiate. How much room can dealers come off the sticker on Tahoes? I have seen some posts on here where it looks like people are getting them for less than invoice. Is this possible? Since I will be using the 0% option with $1000 bonus cash, what kind of total price am I looking to pay? The sticker price on most of the Tahoe's I have looked at so far seem to be around $43K. Help from anyone would be appreciated. I'm at a loss at where to start haggling.
Just curious, Edmunds says the invoice price on a base SLE 2004 Yukon is $31,028, and you paid $22,800 - so you paid $8,228 under invoice - correct? I assume that there is no trade in value in your calculation.
Hi, I bought my Z71 for invoice minus holdback. Also, I received the $5000 cash back, $1000 Olds loyalty and $2300 GM card dollars. Thanks to others in this forum, I found a dealer in the Boston area willing to give me the holdback. Most dealers where I live in NJ will give you invoice plus $50 to $200 as a good deal, so it was worth the drive. Never negotiate off of sticker price. Always negotiate from invoice. Edmunds invoice price is accurate except you need to add 1.5% of MSRP (not including the $850 destination charge) to figure out advertising. This shows up as two items on the invoice (one at 1% and one at .5%). Hope this helps.
We live in Tennessee and are thinking about a Tahoe 4WD LT with the only added options being 2nd row bucket seats, and the Safe and Secure Package (side airbags, Onstar, StabiliTrak, and trip computer). The sticker is around $45,900 with invoice 40,147 according to Edmunds. I do not understand the dealer holdback talked about in some messages and am trying to figure out a reasonable price to pay for this vehicle. We have been looking at an Ascender/Trailblazer EXT and have decided that the gas mileage difference is just not that great between the Trailblazer and the Tahoe. The Ascender is much cheaper than the Trailblazer, but we are afraid to take a chance on Isuzu moving out of the US, and there doesn't seem to be much price difference in the Trailblazer and Tahoe when you come right down to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, for GM, holdback equates to 3% of the sticker price, not including the destination charge. Thus, if your sticker is $45,900 (I assume including destination), then it should be $45,050 without destination (the dest. charge on my Tahoe was $850). The holdback amount is then $1351.50. When I was pricing, all dealers added the 1.5% advertising charged to them by GM. In this example, that would be $675.75. If this was my deal, I would pay $40147+675.75-1351.50=$39,471.25, less all incentives. Most dealers I visited wouldn't even discuss holdback. To find one who will, look for one with a large inventory of 2004 leftovers. The 05's are out now and they need to move them out of inventory. The MA dealer had 149 Tahoes on the lot when I bought. My local dealer had 5. The dealer's web site might show inventory. The Chevy dealer locator will allow you to see stickers for the inventory at any dealer you select. That is the way I chose my vehicle. I hope this helps. Good luck with your shopping.
Tauberj- Did you find Quirk on the GM Buypower site? I tried both by name and zip and didn't find them. I did find their site, but they don't give window stickers. Did i err?
I found Quirk on the Chevrolet sight. I chose SUVs, then Tahoe 4x4, then chose Locate this vehicle. I put in their zip (02184) and their dealership came up. The inventory only shows 50 vehicles, which I think is a limitation of Chevy's website. What I did was use the other website and found vehicles by color/price that I thought closely matched what I was looking for. then I wrote down the VIN and looked it up on the Chevrolet site. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Thanks tauberj for your helpful assistance. I am able to get the gm discount so how does that figure into things? Does that affect the invoice price in any way? Thanks.
Hi, I do not know how your GM discount will factor into your deal. I tried to use a GM discount, but since the GM employee is my wife's cousin, we were not eligible. I think GM has a few different programs (i.e., one or more for employees and one for suppliers). I asked this question when I was pricing and was told that the GM discount price would be better than my deal. Hope this helps and good luck.
Since a few folks have mentioned Quirk, along with just how much a dealer can knock off the price, just google 'quirk chevrolet braintree'. Their web site shows their current ads from Boston's two major newspapers; IIRC, the ads are under the 'specials' link. Their website also shows their complete inventory, albeit not in real time (it's usually a few days slow), but you can get a good idea of everything they have on the lot.
It's a great research tool, just don't expect to use it for pricematching purposes. The other dealer will either bash Quirk in any number of way, or, as one salesman told my wife a few days ago: "Quirk is like Walmart, and we're the local mom-and-pop. There is no way we can match Quirk's ad prices.".
Tho, I have found a dealer or two that unintentionally beat Quirk in specific situations because they had to move cars off the lot or notes were due......
I am new to the board and I can't believe the prices I am seeing but assuming I have no GM dollars and will pay cash what could I expect to pay for a loaded Tahoe LT 4WD. I am in Long Island, NY and could travel a bit if it is worth it. I know someone of selling there 1999 Tahoe with 10k LT with 4WD and leather, edmunds and kelly blue book place the value around $14.3k give or take on the options. The seller is looking for $19-$20k. Which figure is more accurate? Thanks, CK
When Dealers transfer vehicles between their dealerships to get a vehicle a customer wants, how do they treat hold back? Also, I though holdback diminishes over time - 90 days I though--so how do you really deal with this issue? Thanks. E
would you suggest waiting to year end where there will be a squeeze to push the 04's to make room for the 05's or is that already going on? What would i be looking at $40k for a loaded LT?

Check it out here:

Before 6-1:
Tahoe, $3K cash to cust + $1K TF bonus + $1.5K exclus. bonus = $5.5K.
Envoy, $4K cash to cust + $1K TF bonus + $1.5K exclus. bonsu = $6.5K.
After 6-1:
Tahoe, $5K owner loyalty OR $3K cash + $1.5K exclus. bonus = $4.5K.
Envoy, $5K owner loyalty OR $3.5K cash $1.5K exclus. bonus = $5K.
What exactly is the employee discount?
Supplier pricing, on the other hand, is slightly higher than the employee pricing, but is available to a lot of people who work for a company that is somehow related to GM.

In late June/early July, jtaub and I were closer to 30%, but that was the exception then, not the rule......
