94 K1500 transmission not shifting

i have a 94 chevy z71 with rebuilt 350 engine and rebuilt 4L60E transmission. truck runs good but when in drive, only has 1st gear. i can get it to shift to 2nd if i manually shift it, but then it won't downshift back to first. speedometer will not work. sometime, speedometer works at which time transmission shifts perfectly, then speedometer drops out and tranny stops shifting. help!!
