1996 Ford Ranger xlt 4x4 4.0 L
I need to move the differential back 2" to allow the rear section of the rear drive shaft to fit
Can I take the 4 leaf spring bolts out in order to allow the space I need and then put them back after the drive shaft is bolted from the main support bearing to the differential?

If you have to move the rear differential to get the driveshaft in, something is wrong. Is this the original driveshaft or one you bought somewhere? What are you doing that you have the shaft out of the truck? The driveshaft should plunge far enough into the transmission that re-installing this should not be a problem.5 -

I am replacing the rear driveshaft for my 96 Ford Ranger XLT AFTER the leaf spring shackles broke from rust. I have replaced all the shackles. Can I see if it's balanced by putting it in rear wheel drive only while the wheels are off the ground? Will it center itself if I keep the differential slightly free while the wheels are turning?5
