The long-awaited 2016 Toyota Prius made its debut Tuesday in Las Vegas. The five-passenger hybrid, expected to deliver up to 60 mpg fuel economy, looks little like the old Prius and takes much of its design from the 2016 Toyota Mirai fuel cell car.

If I were in the market for a Prius, I'd go for a 2015 w/17" rims before they sell out. Not really digging the looks of the 2016.

Why the bigger rims? 17's aren't huge by any means, and they'd come with the trim level I'd want, but all else being equal I'd rather have smaller wheels.

Yuck... Just.....yuck. Take a note from Tesla's playbook and make it attractive as well as technologically advanced. Why does every hybrid end up getting hit with the ugly stick on the way to production?

I really wish I would have waited another year to purchase my Prius; I am really digging this one. Guess I'll be trading in my car in a year or so.

Wish it was hitting the dealers sooner than early next year. Really wish the V wasn't a year behind.

Simply because they look better IMO :)

Not going to be a fun interior to keep looking good/clean...also, those taillights seem a little low and prone to damage (can't be cheap to replace). Overall, more options of boredom to offer the boring type.

The used value of Pontiac Aztecs just jumped significantly now that they can no longer claim the title of Ugliest Car.

    You called it. :)

"Dodge Magnum has a higher rate of Millennial buyers than any other vehicle on the used car market, according to a new analysis released today by car shopping destination Edmunds.com. The analysis further found that there is an array of unlikely, out-of-production models – like the Magnum, Chrysler Pacifica and Pontiac Aztek – that are finding new life on the pre-owned market with a younger crowd of buyers." Not that any Prius has ever been a looker, but at least the were distinctive in a non-offensive kind of way. It simply looked like a Prius. This new model, though, is nothing short of hideous! I mean, damn!! It's like what happens after a few generations of in-breading with the ugly side of your family. Nothing good will ever come of it!!! Did anyone at Toyota actually look at the clay mock-ups of this car before the built it? I'm sure that all of the weirdo greenies will love it. Lol!!!

So this is Toyota's idea of a design to increase sales and have us cross-shop with other hybrids? If Aquaman (grill? gills?) had a car-child with a Transformer robot (one that got rear-ended), I suspect this is what their auto-spawn would look like. Oh dear, so sorry, but this thing would have to spontaneously generate its own gasoline before I'd buy it.

Form follows function. To get the highest MPG of any production sedan the Prius has the lowest drag coefficient. If the Prius looked like other cars it would get the same MPG. Do you want to save money or pay for subjective looks.

Not sure that "weirder and smaller" was the right path to take here. The Chevy Volt designer team must have had a good chuckle about this.

I agree that form follows function, e.g, the tall and stubby butt is aerodynamic. But, the fascia and tail light cuts, angles and designer drama border on fractal - surely that isn't contributing to better mileage? I must be getting old...

More power? Check. Better mileage? Check. Better seats? Hopefully. Better handling and suspension? Again, hopefully. Everything I was hoping for in the 4th generation Prius! Wait - it looks like that? Why? Why??? Why????????

I'm curious about the AWD system that hopefully will be available on the 2016 Prius. I read somewhere Toyota is using the same technology as Peugeot, which engages the rear two wheels in additional to the front wheels up to 37 MPH and then shuts off. Anybody have any experience with this technology or have any more information? I live in the northeast and would be very interested in owning a AWD Prius.

I just LOVE the Prius' new look! I've had the 2008 and currently have the 2012. The AWD system available in the 2016 is an absolute plus as well as other technologies to match the new look. Can't wait!
