What engine? The 3.2l? yes the timing belt has to come off because it drives the water pump. If its the 2.7l then it is the timing chain that must be removed and there is a newer design double chain that goes back on, which means it gets a new set of cam and crank gears, chain guides, tensioner and oil pump.
