Is it normal for the engine compartment to smoke after a radiator hose blew and was replaced?

I have done alot of work on cars but never a radiator hose so its a first time for me....
My husband's 99 buick lesabre blew the top radiator hose last night and i just fixed it today. The temp gauge is fine but the engine compartment smokes when it gets hot and does smell like antifreeze. I figured it was just the spillage from the break burnin off but i just wanna make sure itll be ok and wont mess anything up.
thanks

I'm thinking that coolant got sprayed on the engine and that the smoking will go away....UNLESS...the car got overheated when the hose blew and you've blown a head gasket. Pretty unlikely unless the car was driven too far with a blown hose.

The hose was blown but where he was someone went out and got antifreeze and duct tape and put it on the hose so he could drive it home maybe 1/4 or 1/2 mile away when i refilled it it was almost full
