Not all adaptive cruise control systems are created equal. The system in our 2015 Nissan Murano is easy to use and works in a way that doesn't make you wish for a simpler setup.

I would be VERY interested to read a detailed summary of how this (and other) systems work in both light and heavy traffic. Does it work well? How does it work? What is the distance it keeps? Does it shut off when traffic slows down or when you speed up too fast? This type of feature will be a HUGE deal once it's fully developed (ie: Tesla version) and to where you can relax during both your heavy interstate and lighter interstate traffic commutes.

Adaptive Cruise Control is a very nice feature from my limited experience with it. I can imagine a vehicle with a CVT is marvelous with it. Cruise control + CVT trans = seamless cruising.

I just bought a 2016 GTI with this feature. VW did a great job on it like Nissan, just select "SET" and it knows to 1) set the speed and 2) Set the distance. You can adjust the distance with a couple of clicks too. It's also got a feature to identify if someone is getting too close behind you. Don't know what good it does but it's neat to have.

I own a 2015 Murano Platinum with adaptive cruise. The other day while in cruise on the highway I drove through a brief snow shower. Almost immediately the cruise shut off and would not reengage. When I could I stopped and cleaned the thin layer of slush off the forward sensor and things worked fine. If every time this sensor gets dirty or obstructed by debris etc cruise is totally unavailable then it's a horrible feature. Does Murano offer a standard cruise mode as some other vehicles with adaptive cruise do? Nothing in owners manual.
