Look at the list and how many of them are comparable to the affected VW models in the US market? The Cruze is around the same price as the Jetta/Golf but other than that you're going to spend significantly more money to own a diesel. For those who like the economy, torque and range, the perception of being a dirty polluter is a very bad thing that hopefully won't doom any chances of future affordable diesel models being released here. I'd assume GM is doing a triple-check to ensure over-the-road compliance on the Cruze but it would be a great marketing opportunity to advertise "hey, look VW owners, you can get a quality compact diesel with great power and mileage that really does run super clean".

Speaking of which, it would be nice if Edmunds added a Cruze Turbo Diesel to the long-term fleet to see how fuel economy stacks up in a competitor meeting the EPA standards. It would also be great to see Edmunds add an affected low mile, pre-owned VW TDI Jetta or Golf for comparison to a Cruze and to document performance and economy differences before and after the eventual VW "fix" as well as cover the repair process.
