That's disappointing in a $56k BMW. I'd expect more. Why didn't they use one of those super-complicated-over-engineered hard tops that they've created for other models? I expect noise in my 15 year old Miata, but not in a car like this.
The engine/exhaust sound in my SLK350 is intoxicating. Makes me want to use the slick shifting gearbox just to hear it. The car is amazingly quiet up to about 70 mph with the top down. With the top up, it tomb-quiet at any speed. Quieter than my 550i.
That seems really surprising for a brand-new BMW convertible. My grandma's 2007 A4 cabrio is decently quiet with the top up. If I recall, her A4 doesn't even have the optional acoustic top that you could get on the A4 cabrio (hers is a 2.0T and I think the acoustic top was only offered on the 3.2 V6 model)
I've driven the same car, I've driven the M6 drop. I've driven just about every drop out this year. My conclusion is that Magrath is just King Whiner. This drop is just as quiet as any other drop on the market. It has a rather loud exhaust that booms over most every noise. McGrath is a complainer. Pee and Cheerios come to mind.
