My 2000 Ford Taurus I just bought, starts and runs, and drives good, than the next time I get in it, it wont start, wont even make a sound,, couple hours later I get in it, it will start like nothing happened, drive it for awhile, shut it off, it might start, and maybe not, wait awhile and starts right up, its just really weird. I took it to a mechanic and it was hooked up to a machine, and it was showing nothing wrong, they said they don't know what is wrong with it. Please help!!!! To me it seems its a security problem , but I don't know. Thanks!

The Ford and some other anti theft systems need about 13.5 volts to react correctly, so start be having your battery load tested, and checked for bad cells at an automotive electrical shop, preferably one that does not sale batteries; that way you are likely to get an honest answer. If it is not the battery have the alternator checked as well. But before doing any of those, if you have a second key, try it. The keys for your vehicle are chipped: they contain a small computer program that interacts with the system and can be corrupted, or cease to work altogether. I would try the second key at home, so if it doesn't work you can charge the battery, and you won't be to far from the coffee pot, lol! Oh, and make sure the battery cables are clean and tight. Good luck6
