Trying to identify year of car in old family photograph

I am researching my family and I have a tin-type photo of my family in this old car. Knowing the year and make of the car would help me tremendously! Thanks

    That looks like a 1903 Pierce-Stanhope car, one of the first made by what became Pierce Arrow. Here's a photo, the configuration looks correct:

    I've darkened the overall photo to see what's underneath between the rear wheels.

    Thanks, @stever - google "1903 Pierce Stanhope" and look at images, looks like a match.

    I'm having trouble pinning down the steering tiller. They seem to be all over the place.

    Nice work, texases. So many detail items (proportion, shape of front guard/footrest, angle of engine cover, body line between seat and engine, seat rails) appear right, I think you are likely correct.
