Working my first car deal (or at least trying!) as an independent single woman! Without my father or a husband!! Very exciting?!! 33,900 asking price for a 2012 infiniti fx35 with 34000 miles. they dropped it to 33,500 without me asking. how low can I ask them to go realistically? I mentioned 29k which I saw on KBB and my sales guy who is geniune, older, and not a fake sleaze ball said that is just a guide line.
any tips?

You can go to our Used Car page and shop for other FX35s to see asking prices around your area.

For the 2012 you are shopping, you can appraise it at that same link. You'll be focusing on the dealer retail price, although the private party number would be your starting number.

All "book" prices, even ours, are just guidelines. But used cars are very profitable for dealers, and usually bring in more money than new car sales. Dealers usually can go lower, sometimes much lower. Whether they are motivated to take a skinny deal depends on a lot of factors though.

Your best shopping tools are your feet and willingness to walk out and look for a better deal. Often when you walk the dealer will come back with a lower number (sometimes you have walk two or three times). It also helps if you can bring a take it or leave it kind of attitude to the dealer. It's hard to do but when you get excited about a car, it tends to cost you. :)
