What is not said is the fact that NO repairs are made to the ignition switches or steering columns. When your letter arrives for the recall it makes NO statement to bring in ALL of your vehicles keys. The "repair" is nothing more than removing your vehicles ignition key from your current key ring and placing a small spacer in the keys slot at the top of the key where the key ring goes thru the key itself. supposedly it keeps a key ring with more than the one key from being used and that takes the weighted angle off the ignition which is the problem ,NOT the key that they are calling the fix.
Sorta like blocking off one tailpipe on a vehicle when the engine runs lean. Makes no sense and the repairs are not what is needed. It is the switch folks not the key. If the key is faulty then replace the key not add a piece of plastic to limit the weight of the keys on the ring. The engineers seem to believe that making this angle changing "fix" on the ignition key will solve all their problems.
Sadly it won't, the only thing that will fix the problem is to FIX the problem with a revised key switch..
Having taken the letter and my Impala to get the "fix" I have seen first hand just how silly this is.
