" valued the sedan at $53,589 based on a private-party sale"
Is this one you will be actually selling or does it just go back to Kia?
Note the tag line at the bottom of the story - "The manufacturer provided Edmunds this vehicle for the purposes of evaluation."
So it belongs to Kia. Would be an interesting exercise to ask CarMax for a quote if they'd be willing to ignore the ownership issue. Maybe give 'em donuts for wasting their time.
A 500 mile search online found 9 used ones varying in price from $33,000 to $41,000 at dealers with similar miles
I don't know where Edmunds get these values from. A couple of years ago I sold my low mileage Crossfire SRT for almost $17k and edmunds value at the time was $12K
All the cars in the country like this, one year 5-10k miles have asking prices for mid $30s, probably sell for low 30k. Your TMV is grossly inaccurate.

Only a fool would pay $53K for one of these used with that many miles. You could probably buy one new for that as Kia cannot give these away.
