I am looking at purchasing an 08 M45 sport. My concern is the requirement for premium fuel only. Has anyone attempted to run it on mid grade, etc? Is there a octane level to stay at or above?

    Thanks!

... Is there a octane level to stay at or above?

    Yes. 91.

I have had no issues at all with my M45 Sport, 2006 edition. Mine has all the technology options available. No squeeks or rattles even. What was determined to be the cause of your shutdown, a software issue? Did Infiniti put a fix in place that I should ask about?

On the M35's, premium works better, but you can substitute regular per the manual (it seems to noticably reduce available power, but you might never notice if you ran around town at low speed). It doesn't run as efficiently, so your mileage will suffer, so it's about a wash. The computer adjusts the timing. The M45's manual (supposedly) does not allow regular at all.

Does it make any difference where you get the premium gas for an M35? Is Shell any better for quick acceleration than 76 or Chevron?
  • johnhwjohnhw Member Posts: 111
It doesnt matter who makes the gasoline, the molecules are basically the same for all types and the additives which are unique do not make a noticeable difference in my view. The octane level matters more than who makes it, as long as it is a reputable company like both Shell, 76 and Chevron are in my view.

There is almost no loyalty among gas buyers...the cheapest gas wins, although some stick to "name brands" only.

Having said that, Chevron's "Techron" is probably the best around...so if I were going to stick to a steady diet of premium gas, I think I would stick to Chevron.

Since my M35 is leased (2yrs and almost up), you can probably safely assume that it gets the cheapest regular gas I can find. I tried premium for four tankfulls and found no difference in economy or performance (most of my driving is around town). I now only use regular and it runs just fine.

I only notice it on on-ramps or accelleration at higher speeds, but I did notice a difference in fuel economy...it was worse with regular.

I live in a apt with a remote control gate and when I went to start my M35 this morning I found all the windows rolled down but nothing was taken. This is the second time in a month this has happened without anything being stolen.

Is this being caused by a rigged remote control for the gate or is there another problem? Anyone with similar stories?
  • prophetprophet Member Posts: 72
After locking my 2006 M35 I returned to it 30" later and found all the windows open. I decided I must have accidently hit something on my car key to cause the problem. Never happened again.
  • james27james27 Member Posts: 433
If you hold the unlock button on the remote, it not only unlocks the doors, it will open all of the windows. Depending on what is in your pockets, or where you place the remote, it is possible that button could have been pressed long enough for that to happen. I know I've activated the panic button on mine accidentally while it was in my pocket.
  • arnold14arnold14 Member Posts: 22
My windows opened in the middle of the night while I was sleeping, I didn't touch the remote. When I went into the parking lot in the morning, the gate was half way open, and all 4 windows were down so it had something to do with the remote or whatever someone was using to try to open the gate. Nothing was taken from my car luckily.

I am thinking of upgrading from '06 to '08. Anyone hear when a redesign for the M is due?
  • ghstudioghstudio Member Posts: 972
I keep hearing 2010. By the way, this month's 24 mo lease is much cheaper than a 36 month one on the M35....and you can lease an M35x for less than you would pay for a comparable M35, even though it's a more expensive car.

I posted about this problem a year and a half ago. It happened twice but not again. It happened overnight. Something is amiss.
  • walt18walt18 Member Posts: 54
Hi, the redesign came for 08 which consisted of new front and rear bumpers and lots of chrome accents. Different lights on back more better looking not as big and bulky as the 07, the inside tach meter lights have been changed from orange to this violet color and white which looks a lot more luxurious, and a few more things at the moment I can't remember. The 08 M had body work done to it which makes it look different than the 07. Now for the 09 M that will be here in the fall I have not heard anything about it yet normally it would be out like now but for some reason they have not released any info on it. When I called my dealership in Raleigh NC. and asked about the 09 M they had no clue what was going to be done to it. So hopefully they are doing engine and transmission work now which I read for the 2010 M they are puting the engine and transmission from the 09 fx50 into the M but get this I read last night that they are bring back the Q45 in 2009 what's up with that. It is said to also have the 5.0L 390hp engine from the 09 fx50 too. I am still waiting to here it out of infiniti's mouth but being that the 09 M is coming out in september I am wanting till them to get mine that way they should have improved on some of the errors they made on the 08 M. If you want to see what the 08 M looks like go to youtube and type in 2008 infiniti M45x review and this guy will tell you everything that has change and you will get to see the whole car from inside out.

Anyone know if you can fit three booster seats in the M35/M45?? If so, what brand are you using????
  • azeilerazeiler Member Posts: 4
I bought a 2006 M35 that had a lot of front end damage and none of the missing parts came with the car. The body shop is telling me they can't figure out how to finish putting it together. They're getting hung up some engine parts, the electrical and the incidental small stuff. They've even been talking to a technician at the dealer, but still can't seem to get it together properly. It's hard to believe they can't finish it with the dealers help. If I didn't know the guy personally, I'd think I was getting the run around. Where can I get exploded views (or other types of pictures or documents) that will help them get my car together? My other alternative is to bring my friend's M35 to the body shop for a day. But that's a huge inconvenience.
  • tayl0rdtayl0rd Member Posts: 1,926
I don't think the technician is being forthcoming with the info. Not sure why he'd be holding out, other than wanting you to take it to the dealership's body shop (which is what you should've done with such a new car with that much damage.) I'd have it towed to an authorized/trained Infiniti body shop... You're not likely to find an exploded view of the car. You could check if Haynes or Chiltons has a manual for the M... :confuse:

My '96 I-30 has 180k miles on it and is on its last legs. I am thinking about a 2006 base M35x as a replacement. I'm not a car nut and am just looking for 8-10 years of reliable transportation in a nice car. I drive 12k miles/year and live near Chicago. Any options or packages that make the '06 m35 a much better car? I am seeing base models with reasonable miles (20-30K) for $23-25k. Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket warantees on infiniti products?

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks
  • ghstudioghstudio Member Posts: 972
the best option for an 06 M35 is to buy an 07 M35 :) Let me explain...

The one flaw on the 06 M series was that Infiniti put in a passenger seat with very limited adjustability. It was uncomfortable to most anyone who sat in that seat for any length of time. In 2007, they upgraded the passenger seat to being fully adjustable.

It's harder to find a used 2007 because many of the 2006's were on lease for 24 months. Lots of the 2007's are also on 24 month leases, but those leases won't end until later this year. I would wait and buy a 2007.

    (I owned a 2006 M35 and now drive a 2008 M35 so I speak from experience).

Thanks GH for that info; I will keep it very much in mind. It is something I would not have known as my wife is exhausted from car shopping and won't go with me to look at cars! so I don't have an adult to sit in the passenger seat! I wouldn't have thought to spend much time myself in the passenger seat.

Your comment certainly proves the benefit of this forum

    abcde6,

I bought a 2007 M35 in July (2008). Love everything about this car except the drive. I'm afraid I'm not cut out for a sporty drive. I am looking to trade or sell the car already. If you're interested let me know.

    Hi all,
I recently bought a used m45 used and wanted to find an aero kit for the vehicle. Does anyone know where you can get one after market???

I got my new 2008 M35 and want to put some CDs into the music box. I called infiniti customer service, and 2 dealerships with the question "How long can I safely use the music box record function with the car in the ACC mode before I begin to drain the battery too much?

    Here are their answers:

Infiniti: Good question, I don't know, let me find out. Then I was transferred to dealership #1.

    Dealership #1: about an hour

    Dealership #2: 5 minutes

Terrific. Does anyone have further insight?

Here is my understanding of how music box works:

    1. You may load it between 5 minutes and 60 minutes.
    2. Alternatively, you must be driving the car to load it.
    3. There is no better way to use the music box other than in real time while driving the car.

    Anything I'm missing here?
  • finadvfinadv Member Posts: 59
That is a good really good question. Being that discs load rather quickly, I have been just loading them when I'm driving. Somehow they load much quicker than they play. Seems you have to load the whole disc and can't load individual songs. So I've been loading the whole disc and then deleting the songs I don't want. Not a great way to go, but it works.

Using it seems to be more of a problem. It seems that you cannot use the Search function to load music except when the car is stopped. You can only play what you set up when you last stopped the car. Have you found anything different? This seems to be a real limitation. When I'm on a long drive, I don't want to stop everytime I want to change Artists or the type of music I'm currently listening to.

Have you found it to be any different?
  • charlie08charlie08 Member Posts: 4
I'm still progressing up the learning curve here, and knew this was an issue when I bought the car. However, my point is two-fold. First, the music box is minimally functional, designed perhaps by someone with an insight from a decade past. Secondly, and more important, why is it that I can't seem to get a definitive answer to the question of how long can one load and record CDs in the ACC mode from Nissan? Their performance with this one issue borders on the shameful. Transferring me to a dealership? What are they thinking, work avoidance?
  • ghstudioghstudio Member Posts: 972
While your question is interesting and intellectually challenging, there are many variables. How charged is your battery when you start using it in ACC? What is the condition of the battery? What else do you have running when using the ACC position? How much power do you need in the battery to start YOUR car (what's the outside temperature, are the lights/wipers on, ....) I can understand why Nissan doesn't answer the question.

I don't think you would get an answer from any car company on this type of question....for example, how long can I run the radio at full blast in a parking lot before a football game....and stll have enough power to start the car.
  • charlie08charlie08 Member Posts: 4
Well, I generally agree with your point, ghstudio, but I just think a more definitive position and response could have been forthcoming. I could have answered all of the questions and variables you presented if I had been asked.
I wonder if anyone has found a work around to getting music into the music box?
  • james27james27 Member Posts: 433
It would make a radical difference if it was in the middle of summer or the middle of winter (at least where I live!)...cold really saps the power available from the battery. the age of the battery will also make a difference. Keep in mind that no storage battery likes to be deep discharged.
  • coug2coug2 Member Posts: 34
I recently purchased a 2007 m35x and want to switch over to winter tires in a few months. Any suggestions on whether I should also buy winter wheels and TPMS sensors? Tirerack also suggests 17" rims for the winter tires. Any thoughts?

I read in one comment that an owner wanted the infiniti dealer to install the tires b/c of the sensors. My dealer is 80 miles away and I'd prefer not to make the trip.

    Thanks.
  • ghstudioghstudio Member Posts: 972
Keep in mind that no storage battery likes to be deep discharged.

Actually, this is not true...there are many batteries specifically designed for deep discharge but they are generally not used in cars.

Deep discharge batteries are found on golf carts, battery operated tools, electric trolling motors on boats...and other similar applications..

Page 4-105 of the M45/M35 Owners Manual says that there is a Memo Pad function that records 6 voice memos up to 20 seconds long each. However, I cannot get it to come up by voice activation, although on page 4-101, there is an example using "Memo Pad record" as a command.
Has anyone used this? My sales person said that it is not a feature of the M35 and he is apparently correct, although it is plainly explained in the manual.
  • james27james27 Member Posts: 433
I went with Michelin PA2's on my car in 17". They handle almost as well as the stock Goodyears and are actually quieter. Because they are higher profile, the ride is better in the winter pothole season, and you're less likely to damage a wheel. You can buy them mounted from TireRack with the sensors already installed, if you wish...I opted to not get them. While a nice feature, I've driven for 40-years without them, only relying on visual and manually checking periodically, so I figured I could handle it. You will get the tire waring light to come on if you drive far enough (about 10-miles or so) and you don't have any sensors.

I have a 3 yeer old M35x coming off lease.

I'm looking at other cars but can anyone tell me of any major differences between then and now? Thanks.
  • ghstudioghstudio Member Posts: 972
The passenger seat is more adjustable and therefore more comfortable.

The navigation recognizes your voice better, but is much more wordy and time consuming.

Some of the old voice options are no longer offered on the US cars (ventilation controls,....)

a few more audio things included....hard disk, .....

    That's about it.

Hi there- I'm considering buying a (gently) used '08 Sport or 09 M35x. Both have low miles and the 08 is under factory warranty until Jan 2013 (plenty by my standards).

The 08 has the Advanced Technology Package (which I've found hard to find on used M's) and the 09 has the 'x' factor as the standard technology package. (From a cost perspective, I think I can both vehicles could be had for aprx the same price - 32-34k.)

I'm leaning towards the 08 because the adv tech package and since I live in TX I don't have much need for X capabilities.

Does anyone have any feedback on pros or cons with these vehicles? thx in advance,

    -t

Has anyone experienced a problem with a tire pressure sensor not working after driving? When I first start my car all 4 sensors read the correct tire pressure. However, after driving about 45 minutes the sensor on the right rear stops reading giving a low pressure warning. If I stop and restart all the sensors work properly.
