Help! Defrost on high!

I was driving to work this morning with my defrost on low. All of a sudden it blasted to high and I looked down and it still showed the controls as being on low. I tried turning it up or down, even off and it wouldn't do anything. I killed the car and cranked it back up again and it never turned off. I can still change it from defrost to a/c but it stays on high. I got to work and turned the car off and it is still blowing. I finally got a man I work with to take the fuse out so it wouldn't run all day and drain my battery. PLEASE HELP ME!!
