Brakes not sensitive enough

Recently traded in for a 2016 jeep cherokee. I noticed in the test drive the brakes were not impressive. Sure enough, long story, we got our car and noticed the same behavior. The brakes stop the car but it is nowhere near as sensitive as all the other brands we've driven. There isn't a snappy response, or enough of a "bite". You have to apply more pressure to the pedal to get there, it is more gradual with more force, where some cars you just touch them lightly the brakes grab and your head goes flying. I had their mechanic check the car, it's fine, and I test drove another cherokee and the brakes were the same way.

Is there anything that can be done or is that how jeep brakes are? Aside from this we like everything else.
