How do you replace the Smart Key fob battery on 2014 SFS 2.0T Limited?

My remote door unlocking is acting up and I suspect it is the battery in the Smart Key fob. I have purchased a new battery (CR2032 3V lithium). The manual says to remove the mechanical key from the fob and then snap the two halves of the plastic fob apart to access the battery. I can't, for the life of me, figure out how the fob halves snap apart without destroying the fob. I have tried sliding a wide slot screwdriver into the channel where the mechanical key normally resides, and then twisting, but nothing seems to want to let go. Does the dealer use a special tool?
