Will any other engines be adaptable to 2001 Montero Sport Limited

My shade tree experience is with domestic cars and trucks. This Mitsubishi I picked up probably needs a new engine. I have found several and would like to know if other Model years or enginr sizes can be adapted to my Montero Sport. For instance an engine from an eclipse or diamante. Or another Sport. Thanks for your feedback.

If no one weighs in here with an "I've done this" post, most salvage yards will have an "exchange" book they can look this kind of stuff up in.
