2009 Chevy Impala LT--Starting Disabled/Service Throttle--P2138

Last night....I was headed to East Texas, about 50 miles. About 3/4 of the way there, it gives me "Service Throttle Control" and "Engine Power is Reduced". I made it 99% of the way, and then I feel a lurch and my car slowed down significantly. The display read "Starting Disabled/Service Throttle". I could hardly steer the car and braking began to suffer. I finally had to use my emergency brake to stop the car. After about five minutes, and trying to press on the accelerator panel, I was able to get the car going again and it performed flawlessly all the way back home. Also got battery lights and repeated engine power is reduced. 123,000 miles and I was watching my speed very much during horrible rain. I did have codes pulled and I got a P2138. No other lights came on.

I've been researching this and from what I've been able to tell, this may be an issue with the accelerator pedal position sensor. Can someone confirm this....especially those GM reps who frequent these boards? And does anyone from GM know about any recalls? I can't afford to get this fixed for an insane amount of money.

I had the same problem with my 2011. After the car shut down, turn the key off for 2-3 min. Restarted and ran fine for days. All trouble lights went out, My local mechanic scaned for codes and found p2138 in history, pedal position coralation. He explained that all the voltage values was correct at this time and no moisture or corrosion was noticed at the connector. A water leak above the pedal could cause intermittent problems. He told me GM had problems with these pedal assemblies and to check with the dealer there might be a free repair if the customer requested and the dealership is truthful. There is!! and my dealer repaired mine for free. I also have a good dealer and a great independent mechanic that i trust.
