Transmission won't go into gear

My wife was driving and said she heard a loud pop and the truck quit pulling so had got it home and pulled the transmission thinking maybe shaft broke tore down nothing broken nothing looks bad in it so towards the transfer case apart nothing and transfer case looks bad if anyone has a clue I will be thankful for any help
