Transmission/transfer case

I have a grinding noise very similar to brakes that are metal on metal. Its coming from either the transfer case or transmission. It started after using 4Hi... The sound is only apparent when starting off, it seems to go away once the truck shifts into 2nd. used a stethoscope to pinpoint sound and it seems to be coming from transfer case, but not positive because there is some sound at the tranny but its not as loud. All fluid levels are full and no shavings in the fluid either. Any ideas or similar problems?
