It's disappointing that the unit can't figure out which OS powers the device on its own.

That IS disappointing, but its not surprising to me. I don't know, Google seems to have frustratingly confusing or poorly thought out "1.0" devices and that combined with a company like Pioneer that isn't known for their software development side means that 5 years from now, this device will probably be throw away material. I look forward to seeing a fully polished version hopefully before too long.

"Interestingly, on Android's first handshake with a new car, it requires the car be in park WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON." Well that's going to stop 80% of the male population of the US ever making this work. Oh, and it's PARKING brake, for use whenever you are parked and it's not going to freeze.

Especially as a main point to USB is that the device identifies itself to the host when it's plugged in.

You mean a type C USB adapter, there is no such thing as a USB 3 adapter. Speeds of USB are all backward compatible, so you just have to adapt the connectors.

USB 3 has been around since 2008. The plug looks just like a USB 1 or 2 plug, it's just that "superspeed" USB 3 transmits data at a faster speed than USB 1 or 2.

Correct, I meant type C. You should hear how often I confuse Apple's Thunderbolt and Lightning cable nonsense.
