    The auto-brake-release function only works when going from P to D. It won't release it when going from P to R.

    Ah. Now that you mention it, there were probably times when I backed into a stall, and the other times I nosed in (my garage for instance). Seems like oversight to me.

    Have we become so idle that we cannot operate the parking brake ourselves?

    No, but I like the idea of a simple little button instead of a lever taking up floor or console space. Had one in a recent rental that worked well.
