450es, Difference is, with an ATV in a "sportside", you don't have nearly as much room around the fenders to put OTHER stuff. Yeah, you can put things in the bed of a "stepside", just not nearly as much as in a full bed. You can't argue that you can fit MORE in a full bed, and I am always running out of room on fishing/hunting/dump/garden center/etc trips.

My vote for the ugliest pickup of all time - Ford Ranger Splash. Man, that thing is a cartoon of a truck. (no offense to any of you that might be unfortunate enough to own one).

Hey, that would make a good new topic
  • 450es450es Member Posts: 7
I fully agree that you can fit more in a Fleetside bed. All I'm really saying is that the Sportside does what I need it to do and, in my opinion, looks great doing it. My ATV takes up almost every inch of the bed, but things like gas cans and such can be strapped onto the racks. Where there's a will, there's a way, ya know?

Didn't mean to rain on your parade. Insulting one's pickup is like insulting one's mother. My mom is the sweetest most beautiful mother in the world, you know.

I have just never understood why people think the stepside/sportside looks good. As long as you're happy, and your truck does what you want it to, enjoy. I'm sure there is something that I like that has lower utility than an alternative. I generally prefer the looks of function though.

From your profile, I assume you are a woman. I can see why a woman would like the F150. I am not trying to cause an arguement, but the F150 looks like a womans truck. All those curvy "beautiful" characteristics. Men want a truck to look like a truck. The Ford F250 does in my opinion, but the F150????

    F150=Good womans truck.

Have another one! Just don't get to friendly with my "beautiful", "curvy" F150 :)

I didn't think F-250 owners drank light beer.
  • bud_light_dudebud_light_dude Member Posts: 330
Hey. I didn't mean to dis your rides. I respect freedom of choice and preference. I am glad that everyone in the world does not like the same things that I like.

Just made an observation. The Fords seem to be good trucks. I just don't like the looks of them. Although I prefer to buy American if I can, I think the Toyota's are good trucks, but I think they are ugly too. They look too much like the F150. Again, just my preference.

I have been having a couple of minor problems with my 99 Silverado. Nothing all that show stopping, but annoying. You Ford owners can now rib me about my "truck looking" truck having problems. It's all in fun. No harm intended. I am glad we all live in a country that allows for so many choices and that everyone utilizes that priveledge.

Happy holidays! I am ready for a Bud "Light" by preference. Only because I am starting to see more of my mid section than I used too!

I specifically remember the Chevy redesign in '88 and Ford owners saying it was too round and how Fords look like real trucks. My, how the tables have turned.

    You know what's even funnier??

Guys that drink a "woman's" beer making comments what seems feminine to them.......... ;)

    LOL!

    Oh man.....Bud Light? LOL!

AHhhh....whatever floats your boat and makes you feel better........
  • bud_light_dudebud_light_dude Member Posts: 330
Its a real shame that you need to be such an "[non-permissible content removed]" to "feel better

Sorry that my opinion and preference caused you so much question and disruption of your confidence in your truck of choice, obviously the F150 truck. If you didn't agree with me, you shouldn't have taken offense. I guess deep down inside, you must agree, thus your retaliation.

If you could read, you would note that I apologized for my post about the F150. I just commented that a lot of women like the F150 because it has a more rounded and girlish figure than the competitions trucks do. Well, I guess the Tundra looks just like it, so I guess I have to limit it to the Dodge and Chevy competition trucks. That say's nothing of the trucks worthiness. Everyone has a preference. Just because mine isn't the same as yours, doesn't mean you have to be a juvenile [non-permissible content removed].

    Have a great holiday!
  • RoclesRocles Member Posts: 982
Hmmm....I'm juvenile because I knock your beer. You are mature because you call the F-150 a "woman's" truck but then realize how stupid your comment was and have been backpeddaling since? Sure.....and I call myself "Miller beer guy". LOL!!

Hey pal--just throwing some light humour around...it seems you may have to cool off with some Bud!! ;)
  • bud_light_dudebud_light_dude Member Posts: 330
If you call what you are doing some light humor, not "humour", please don't feel the need to make me laugh. You don't impress me.

I don't think I said anything stupid, just inconsiderate at the time. I am not back-peddling anything. I still have the same opinion of the F150. I just realized I could have been a little less like you and not put my opinion in a way that belittled F150 owners like yourself.

I have read some of your other posts in some of the topics here. You aren't fooling me or anyone else here. You and ?unix? seem to enjoy causing trouble here. Take it elsewhere please. I want to learn from others here, not get into arguments like I was still in grade school.
  • RoclesRocles Member Posts: 982
    Hey dude,
What's up with the stern outlook? Geez....All of the sudden--you're uptight?? Oh...Have you "read" my posts? OK.....So what did I say that "annoys" everyone? Have I made comments about how certain trucks look? No..That's right--Never have.
Comparing me to unix is funny. Ask anyone here if I rate that low--seriously--ASK. I jumped on you for your comment was more than "inconsiderate"; rather it was unfounded and purely subjective which doesn't seem to be something that needs to be learned from this site. You are here because you want to learn a little, right? So how do we exchange ideas through criticism of subjective matters like styling? Wouldn't you rather talk about engines, tow ratings, loads, options, etc...???
That was why I made an issue of your statement.

I'll stay out of your way if you desire considering the fact that it seems to annoy you if we don't use the spellcheck feature. (Humo-u-r)

Drink some more Bud and relax--I won't call you names like unix would and make you cry........

Speaking of name-calling and flaming out, guess who used "[non-permissible content removed]" so far! Hmmm and I'm like unix/Zbad.......yeah..OK!! ;)

Words of wisdom: Unix/Zbad is brutal so don't get on his bad side. You see, I'll leave you alone after this post--he wouldn't.

names like unix would and make you cry........

Rocles, this is the type of statement that I am talking about. I plan to drop this as it is not contributable to the site. My statement WAS subjective and opinionated and because it was, you should not have gotten so upset. I apologized for not thinking about my remark before I posted it. In my mind, it was no more harmful than saying I like the color red more than white. In either case, I apologized for my remark and you shouldn't have gotten so crass with me.

I apologize for calling you an [non-permissible content removed], but to me you were acting like one, so the name fit.

btw, I am human and have been known to cry when something sad merits, but nothing anyone states on this board could bring a tear to my eye.

As far as this unix character, I only mentioned his name because I have read posts between you two and you were the same way to each other as you were to me. I don't play those games.

As far as I am concerned, this is dropped for pursuit of what we are suppose to be here for. I hope you feel the same.
  • gwmooregwmoore Member Posts: 230
Roc may let this sit, but I will take up his cause.

"Dude", just relax. I have never seen someone blow his head off like you did at such a small remark. Man, Roc makes a joking comment, just like mine a couple posts before his, about you drinking light beer. Just making fun. I think Rock would agree we all should probably be drinking light beer. But then you come back calling Roc an "[non-permissible content removed]". Then you say he is consistently "causing trouble here". I haven't seen that in Roc.

Throwing barbs around in fun is cool around here. But it just makes you look like a fool to go off half-cocked at a remark that was obviously made in fun.
  • bud_light_dudebud_light_dude Member Posts: 330
Sorry. It is hard to read a person through this type of correspondence. I will try and be a little more "light" humored in the future.

BTW: Maybe not "the greatest of all time", but one of my favorite trucks is the 49 Ford. Loved the looks of those trucks. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the powertrain so I dropped a Chevy 283 under the hood. Sweeeet!
  • RoclesRocles Member Posts: 982
    bud light dude,

We're cool except for your engine choice! Sweet choice in truck but I wonder how a small block (350) would feel in that baby!!?! Sorry about the unix comment--it's just that he's far more brutal than funny.

    gwmoore,
Thanks big guy! Sometimes it takes a third party to mediate and clear the storm clouds.

Light beer? Yeah sure.....my gut is a little too big!!.....but Miller Lite only!! ;) LOL!!

    Were cool.

Hey, that 350 would be good too or even a ford 400 (may have had to cut the inside of the fenders some), but I went for the 283 for the shorter stroke, faster off the line. It's higher revving and not much good beyond a 1/4 mile, but it sure turned the heads of everyone off the line. A 327 would have done about as nicely, but I had the 283 available and in rebuildable shape already. I had it about 3/4 restored when I sold it.

I leave this board for a while, come back and find everyone talking smack! I knew my ears were burning.

As far as Bud Light Goof and Rockles, you both need a life.

Rockles: I thought you and I were at least through with the crap on this site. Come here to find you up to your same old trash. What's up with that?
  • RoclesRocles Member Posts: 982
    unix/ZBAD,

Aww man--when did they let you back in?? Hey--if you read my comments you would see that I was actually giving you a compliment in the Harrassment area! Come on.....It's RESPECT BABY!! I was referring to you as the "exalted" one! True Ledgend!! But Alas...I digress.............. ;)

    Bud light,

May I ask how much your investment was into the '49?? I'm curious about re-habbing one myself. There is a '50 for sale near my house and he's asking 9 grand since it is in nice shape. It even has the original six from Ford--first thing I would get rid of!
  • bud_light_dudebud_light_dude Member Posts: 330
I wouldn't waste my time stroking the unixdud's ego. It's obvious he needs assistance.

I really can't put a dollar amount on what I had in it, because I had friends and family members that did a lot of the engine rebuild, as far as the machine shop work, special yoke was machined for the GM to Ford rear end, etc. that I didn't really keep track to close of.

The truck was mint engine-wise. Everything with the body was done, except paint. I ordered the fiberglass fenders, so I guess I can't say it was actually 3/4 "restored" meaning to "original" condition.

I can tell you that even with a mint driveline and only needing exterior paint for the most part, I sold it to a guy 4 years ago for 6,200 cash. Broke my heart when I sold it to him cause he was buying it to turn into a street rod (lowered, chopped cab, etc).

I would say that at today's price, in very good condition, 9 grand would still be kinda steep unless it is completely original and in extraordinary shape. To a collector who likes that particular truck, someone may get that, but I don't know that I would pay that for it. It also depends on what area you live in, etc.

I would say you could find one cheaper.
  • RoclesRocles Member Posts: 982
I agree that this guy is asking for too much. I took a gander at it again today and he claims that everything on it is original. Apparently it was part of a collection under a garage for years of some dealer. He even has the manual which looks like it just came off the press! I'll keep looking--it's just that I don't have the time for a basket-case so I need something that at least in rideable.

    Everyone,
I'll be going to my bunker now in fear of "Y2K" so after the sky falls--I'll be back!! ;) LOL!

I guess this got off course with comments about stepside and fleetside boxes. I've got my own personal preference, but when the topic is "greatest truck" it doesn't matter--particularly when the truck being discussed is available with both boxes.
I started this topic with my nomination, the 72 Chevy. It's a tough truck; the lines are classic, they've passed the test of time (both in terms of durability and styling). I can't argue with those who want to nominate the entire line from 69 - 72, I prefer the egg-crate grill (that I recall actually came out in 71) and the general perfection achieved by the 72 model year. FWIW I had a 70 myself, which was still running perfectly with 160,000 miles on it when I sold it.
  • rwellbaum2rwellbaum2 Member Posts: 1,006
I like the '68-'72 fleetside Chevy. That'd be my nomination for all time favorite.
  • themacguythemacguy Member Posts: 417
I agree. We bought (and still own) a 70 1/2 (71? I believe a GM labor strike killed most or all of the factory production of a pure '70 model) Super Cheyenne 400 (small block?) Fleetside. Light red, white vinyl buckets, interior wood trim (with exterior 'wood' stripe down low), A/C, tilt, am/fm, power steering / power frt. disks, hd cooling, factory (heavy) chrome grill guard. No factory tach. (bummer). It had the factory turbo 400 auto which we upgraded to a 'full race' B&M 400 (medium stall), to pull a 10,000# John Deere JD-350 bulldozer & 20' float with for 10 years. Ours has the eggcrate grill - but it's sort of a heavy grey plastic. Has beautiful chrome bumpers, though. The interior 'plastic chrome' needs help.

Still has original paint. Inset of seats recovered with factory pattern white vinyl. Redyed the center console. Replaced the inner glove box. Installed a target 350 after the towing years. Kept the turbo 400 for restoration down the road. Only butchering was the hole cut in middle of bed for the gooseneck hitch.

Bought an '85 Dodge Ram 150 to replace (still have it in good condition). And just took delivery of a 2000 Dakota Quad Cab. I think the Quad is the best truck I've ever driven, until I think back about the Chevy. It still has my vote for looks, ride and power - that truck actually outran my '72 LT-1 Vette in a street race with a good friend of mine driving the Vette - top end was higher on the truck, too! It still turns a lot of heads as well. :-))
  • tmats1tmats1 Member Posts: 35
That's a great story. I believe the short-lived 400 WAS a small block; seems like they got the 50 cubes entirely by stroking the 350 (but I could be wrong...again). Sounds like a candidate for a complete restoration. We recently acquired a 00 Ford Super Duty crew cab. It's also a great truck, but like your Dodge will have a helluva mark to shoot for to match those Chevys. We'll hafta see what truck fans think of em in 25 years or so.
  • themacguythemacguy Member Posts: 417
1 - I don't know (and wonder a lot) if ANY of our new trucks will be around (that old adage about 'recycled beer cans') in the year 2025 (sounds almost like a song...).

2 - I don't know if I will be around in '25 (I'm 42 this year and in the oil - pass the Rolaids - business); BUT,

3 - I am absolutely, positively sure that our old Chevy will be around (and restored, and probably worth more than my house)!
  • tmats1tmats1 Member Posts: 35
LOL, well here's a Rolaid...heck, given the price at the pump now, the caps ought to be coming off those domestic wells.
