No, belive me, it was NOT the alignment. I went round and round with the dealer and Discount Tire. Discount never mounted them backwards, but the dealership did once (I had it corrected quickly). The alignment is dead on and the steering wheel is calibrated. As proof, the dealership took the tires of a known good Malibu and put them on my car and the problem went away. It definitely WAS the tires. Maybe it was just the brand or something but my car didn't take them well at all.
yeah, the same thing happened to me when I first got the directional tires on my Mazda; the shop put one on backwards. I think I'll still take the chance when the time comes and get the Daytonas for the Maxx. I still don't know when that will be since these OEMs are pretty good. I drive the car very hard, and can get them to squeel every once in a while, but for the most part, they hold their ground very well. I'm guessing at the 2 year mark it will be time for a new set. Tires are so crazy; I've had the worst luck with reportedly the best tires in the world (Michelin). While I would never have guessed that I'd be so crazy for Firestone given the problems they had with truck tires a few years ago, the same can be said for my first US car purchase (my Maxx).
Hi < On my 05 Max I just purchased a Rear hitch, I have not installed, as I will modify some (lighten) since it will be primarily for my Bike carrier.... BTW you would not believe the over-designed / over weight hitch I got delivered. If you bolt this thing up to your Maxx you will be wondering if this (~50 pound) 1/4 inch plate steel and the 3/4" heavy bars will mean anything if the Max frame is only ~ 1/16" thin. TTalk about adding some weight, the steel will probably reduce my milage like an anchor... IMO D~
Ok, sorry to be asking so many questions! I just LOVE our new MAXX! I want to mount a radar detector, and was just curious, I see the front windshield is 70 % tint, and is a heat reflective. Will tis interfer with the detector? Also, I want the detector to turn on and turn off with the car. Is it easy to hook it into the fuse box, and what fuse would you recommend I hook it too? THanks in advance!
I have a 2004 malibu. I would like to install an aux. input (RCA's) into the back of the OEM cd player that will be recognized by the oem head unit. The back of the cd player has a 12 pin input (2 pins x 6 pins) that is free and I think it will work with the PIE GM12-Aux.
'05 Malibu Maxx...the top of the rear bumper is prone to scratching, expecially black. I'm looking for an aftermarket or GM pad that can be glued onto the top of the bumper to hide the existing scratches and prevent additional ones, similar to what's commonly found on SUVs and mini vans, but I can't find anything specifically for the Maxx.
Hi All! I am thinking of buying an 06 Maxx SS. I am hearing a lot about Handling being bad and Braking Distends being really bad. Is this true is it really that bad? Would you all recommend the Maxx? Thanks! Sue
would recommend the LZ over the SS to be honest..have an 04 LT Maxx and love it...almost 55K on her now....I beleive the LZ replaced the LT model.....but Im having fun tommorrow picking up the new toy...our Pontiac Solstice is at the dealer ready for delivery!!!!
good news doubl dins will now fit, the kit is metra 95-3302 or ai gm-k352, also if you do not want double din you can get the 99-3303 from metra, it has a dic built in. or you can us the ai gm-k350 it does not have the dic. also you do not need to relocate the radio. all you will lose is the dic. trust me.
pao, I think it is the LTZ you are talking about. And why would you pick that one over the SS? Your new car sounds really cool! I wanted one of them myself but just not big enough for all the junk I have to haul around with me all the time. They are really beautiful though! Thanks! Sue
redmaxx Thank you for your reply. I'm wanting a car that corners and handles great do you feel the LTZ can do this? Besides the harsher ride is the SS better at this? Is either of them set up for really good handling or are they set up for a basic driving car. Sorry I'm a women that doesn't know a lot about cars ect. Thanks! Sue
I have an 04 Maxx with tan interior. I purchased some wood accents from www.exoticwooddash.com. The pieces I purchased go around the radio and HVAC knobs & button. It's a close match to the horizontal strips that come on the car. The pieces are on stiff paper. You just peel them off and place them gently on the dash. Make sure all the button have clearance, then press the pieces firmly all over. If any button sticks you can pull the piece off and and reposition it. I'm not sure if this company makes anything that would go with the brushed aluminum trim.
I bought the same dash pieces as sgr...only I have an '05 with the grey interior and brushed aluminum strip on the dash..I selected, as I recall platinum...I believe..At any rate, as sgr states, it is a snap to put on..and it looks great..It's been on for about 10 months now I guess.. That black plastic around the radio and HVAC looked kinda cruddy..This spiffs it up.. Good luck...Jack
I have the saem set..probably started these guys purchasing...as have had my own over a year now...just make sure you dont apply them in the cold...warm the area with a hair dryer...and any piece that requires a little bending should also be warmed up....I think I have pics of the install on my Maxx website...just due a google search ...and you should be able to find it...oswald maxx should bring it up...
I have this set too after visiting your website pao and seeing your pics. Mine has grey interior and I really like the look with the simulated wood grain. It was very easy to install. I get a lot of comments from people and I have had it for about six months.
sgr5516, Thanks! It sounds real easy but I'm afraid I'd mess it up good. I might give this a try though when I buy my new maxx. I hate how black the entire inside is so this will be a good way to add some color to it.
redmaxx Thank you for your reply. I'm wanting a car that corners and handles great do you feel the LTZ can do this? Besides the harsher ride is the SS better at this?
I haven't driven an LTZ, but I read that it does handle and corner better. Personally, I'm happy with the handling and cornering of my 04 LT. I've been able to take turns in excess of 30 MPH with no problem (keep in mind I did replace the tires).
Anyone have knowledge about what type of driving/fog lights would fit in a non-fog light equiped Malibu with decent styling and the least amount of work?
I have a 05 Maxx LT best brakes I have had in any car. Now my wheels are 16" and the SS is 18" don't know if that will make a difference. Did finally see an SS at the dealer last week, I thought the wheels looked a little odd, with the huge wheels and still the little rotor/brakes . My 2 cents.
hoen.com they make awesome upgrade bulbs to fit the maxx, the light output is so much better than stock bulbs......and they're legal, i've been using them for a year, money well spent!
I have my windows tinted 85% on the drivers and passenger door 30% rear doors, hatch and strip across the windshield cost was $175. Gives a great look to the car and added protection from the sun.
Does anyone have a problem with their headlights shaking? We took my 2005 Maxx LS to the Chev place and they said that they cant do anything and they compared it to other Maxx's in the lot. He said it may be a design flaw.
My mirror flap to my visor broke and the Chev dealer is suppose to replace it. He said that they are prob going to have a recall because so many have broken.
I am also considering getting my windows tinted but I was unsure how much better it would make it appear. I have a dark gray Maxx. Should I get them tinted?
We need to get some wireless headphones and a remote for the DVD. Does anyone know of a good place to get them. I do not want to go through chev. because they are over $100.00 a piece. Thanks!
Did GM really do a recall for the broken visor covers? I don't recall hearing or reading about it. Recalls are usually only done for safety related problems. I do have copy of TSB 05-08-110-005 which GM issued Sept 2005 to instruct dealers to replace the broken mirror/cover, not the whole visor. My right side cover is broken. Will have it checked at next service visit.
It was a recall. I received a letter in the mail in October that stated the mirror covers were faulty, and both drivers side and passenger would be replaces when re-designed parts were available. I received the follow up letter late Dec. that stated the new parts were available, made an appt. with my dealer(who then ordered the redesigned parts) and had them installed last week.
FYI-they do not replace the whole visor, but they do replace the entire mirror assembly(not just the cover).
It was only a campaign for certain 2005/6 Malibu and 2006 G6 so didn't apply to your 2004 Maxx which is why you weren't notified about it. It is called Sun Visor Mirror Cover Nonfunctional/Breakage #05094 and came out last month. I don't know any details about it.

Just got my brand new 2005 MAXX LS last week(LOVE IT!!!. Cant believe how fast this car is, I almost feel like they put the SS motor in my LS. Anyway, I have some questions, I would love to put some chrome wheels(16 inch) on it and was wondering if anyone else has got them on it and where did you get them. Would love any pictures of them on your car sent to me(babalinaverizon.net). One problem I had was visor mirrors covers both broke when we tried to use the mirrors, dealer is suppose to replace them next week. Also I would love to buy a cargo mat for the back but cant find anything on the net except for the malibu and not the maxx. Also missing was this paper clip holder that suppose to stick to the mirror. Was this suppose to come with the car or is it a extra to buy, because I cant find mine in the car. Also does anyone have any cool after market accessories on there car. I also want to get the windows tinted for the rear windows(cant tint front in NJ) I saw on ebay that they are selling precut tint and claim its real easy to install your self(anyone have any luck) Well I am rambling as you can see I am excited about the car. Any help would much be appreciated
You probably got the rear seat audio system which also uses same wireless headphones - but it doesn't have remote, you only get that with the rear seat entertainment (DVD) system.
My Maxx doesn't have the dvd player and I would like to get an aftermarket one installed. Going to Florida in March with the kids and I want to keep them busy. Any suggestions or ideas? Should I goto a store like Best Buy or Circuit City?
... I got mine done for Christmas... 15% on three rear windows, 35% driver and passenger front... tinting is not legal on the front side windows in Michigan, so I went a little conservative... My Maxx is black and my tint is just black, no metal. I think it looks awesome! Hint! If you get pulled over in a state where tinting is illegal, turn on your interior lights... this makes your tint less noticeable. Usually in MI, if the cop can see in, they don't bother you about the tint... unless you are a teenager or a pain. Avoid "limo" 5%. It makes the interior very dark.
I got one and the only thing is when the movie is over, I would have to pull over, remove it from the bag and put a new movie in. Plus the bags aren't the most secure thing in the world. It usually slides off the headrest.

Is the GM12-Aux compatible

Tinting--you should get them tinted if you would like it, if not, don't. I am getting my rear windows and hatch tinted next week.

Hope this helps.
