1997 Ford Ranger 4X4 problem.

Have a 1997 Ranger 4X4. 4hi - 4lo lights blink and go off. Manual locking hubs. Can lock them in, turn wheels and front drive shaft turns. Appears not to be engaging in xfr case. Fuses good. Guessing shift motor or control module bad. Not sure how to check module codes. Help!
