Instrument Cluster

I have a 1997 Mercedes E320 and the instrument cluster gauges have all stopped working at the same time. I checked the fuses and all are okay. The odometer, temperature, Fuel gauge, Tachometer stop and clock still work. The lights also work. If one of the gauges goes bad, do the rest quit working as well? Periodically, the gauges do work after the car has not been driven for a while. I thought it may be a bad connection, but only the gauges go bad .car run good . Do I need a new instrument cluster?
